On April 21, an online training session for higher education faculty titled “Invention Pedagogy: Challenges of Modern Maker Education” was held. The event was organized as part of the REFINE project (“Rebuilding the Future: Empowering Educators and Students through Cross-border Cooperation and Invention Pedagogy” – EDUC-WIDE SEED PROJECTS – 2024).
The session opened with a welcoming address by the co-author of the REFINE project, Larysa Dahl Kolesnyk (PhD in Pedagogy, Senior Researcher at the Faculty of Humanities, Sports, and Educational Sciences, University of South-Eastern Norway). On behalf of the project team, Olena Budnyk (Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Primary Education and Educational Innovations, and Director of the “CNU EcoSystem” Center) delivered a presentation titled “Innovative Trends in Education: Maker Pedagogy.” She focused on innovations in modern education, emphasizing the opportunities for integrating makerspaces, invention, digitalization, and research-oriented learning within the educational systems of various countries. The training also featured presentations from other project members: “Sustainable Development as the Foundation of Invention Pedagogy in Modern Education” (Prof. Liudmyla Matsuk); “Invention Pedagogy and Maker Education: Methodological Models” (Assoc. Prof. Marianna Matishak and Assoc. Prof. Iryna Skomorovska).
The event brought together representatives from several Ukrainian higher education institutions, including: T.H. Shevchenko National University “Chernihiv Colehium”; Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University named after Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky; Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University; Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University.
Participants expressed significant interest in the training topics, discussed the challenges of implementing invention pedagogy in modern educational institutions, and outlined prospects for further cooperation to improve the professional training of future educators and the integration of maker education into the learning process.
